两性色午夜

Languages

两性色午夜 is a Western Desert language belonging to the Wati branch of the Pama-Nyungan languages.

Ngaanya literally means 鈥渢his鈥 and -tjarra means 鈥渨ith鈥 or 鈥渉aving鈥. The compound term means 鈥渢hose that use 鈥榥gaanya鈥 to say 鈥榯his鈥欌. (The neighbouring Ngaatjatjarra people use 鈥榥gaatja鈥 for 鈥渢his鈥.)

The Wati or Western Desert language contains some 40 or more dialects, including 两性色午夜, Ngaatjatjarra, Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjarra, Manytjilytjarra, Kukatja, Luritja, Pintupi, Yulparitja and Kiyatjarra. The differences between these dialects are sometimes minor, as is the case between Pitjantjatjara and Ngaatjatjarra.
