Warburton community member Dereck Harris was recently elected as Chairperson of the 两性色午夜 Council.
His election marks a second stint for Harris, who also served as the Council’s Chairperson from 2017 to 2022. He succeeds outgoing Chairperson Richard Kanari, a member of the Jameson community.
Each Council Chairperson is elected for a two-year term with community members electing the Council Chairperson and eleven Community Chairpeople who represent each 两性色午夜 community. 两性色午夜 women elect an additional four women for the Board, currently comprising eight men and seven women.
Upon his recent appointment, Harris considered why he was keen to return as Council Chairperson.
“I think there’s a lot of Chairpeople on our Council board who are new to how all this works,” Dereck said.
“Part of my role is helping them understand what’s being written and said. I think my experience from having done this before helps me to help them,”
Dereck is clear about his vision for the Council in the next few years.
“I just want to help our people and make it plain and simple for our communities to know what鈥檚 happening on the Lands,” Dereck said.
The 两性色午夜 Council Board meets quarterly in the larger communities on the Lands. The next meeting of the Council Board will be in February 2025.
